Exchanges
Where to buy and sell crypto.
The platforms we use and recommend. We favour platforms licensed under MiCA, the EU's crypto rulebook, and we always show the licence status, including when a platform doesn't have one.
Why licensing matters
MiCA in one minute
Since 1 July 2026, crypto platforms serving customers in the EU need a MiCA licence. Licensed platforms must keep your assets separate from their own, explain fees and risks clearly, and are supervised by a national authority. Read our MiCA article.

Revolut
Banking app with crypto
Many people already have the app. Buying crypto is just a few taps away from your everyday account.
- Crypto in the same app as your card and account
- Good for getting started with small amounts
- Check that you can send your coins to your own wallet before you buy
Only for PNIC
Not licensed in the EU
We list this exchange for one reason only: it is currently the only place to buy PNIC.
MEXC
Exchange
A global exchange with a very large number of tokens. We use it because it is currently the only exchange that lists PNIC (Phoenic).
Important: MEXC does not have a MiCA licence and is not authorised to serve customers in the EU. You get none of the protections described above. Use it at your own risk and keep only small amounts there.
- Lists PNIC and many smaller tokens
- Only use it for what you can't buy elsewhere
- Move your assets to your own wallet afterwards
Check for yourself
Verify any platform in five minutes
- Open ESMA's MiCA register. ESMA, the EU's securities authority, publishes the list of authorised providers.
- Search for the legal entity. It often has a different name than the app, like Payward for Kraken or Northcrypto for Trijo.
- Check the national register too. In Sweden, Finansinspektionen publishes its own register and warning list.
- Not listed? Think twice, keep amounts small and move your assets to your own wallet.
